Insects, Maggots, pesticide all probs as Toronto Enters Week 3 of the Garbage Strike

advertisement

The City had to go to court to get an injunction to spray the trash to prevent a possible infestation, as striking workers had blocked their access to the temporary dump sites.

Now that officials have sent in contractors to control the maggots, those who live nearby are also up in arms over the pesticide use.

The insects are starting to be a real problem, Toronto Public Health warned. Residents are worried the vapour from a pesticide sprayed on the growing mounds of garbage could be harmful to people as well.
