Lesbian Batwoman (DC's 1st Gay Hero) Gets her own Comic

advertisement

Give me a break, said John Capone in NBC Chicago. First of all, Batwoman is "a comic book character breaking the gay superhero barrier—hardly the equivalent of Rosa Parks." And second, "she is the very essence of a male dominatrix fantasy, thought up by a group of horny comics geeks"—DC is hardly "striking a blow for equal rights."

This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

DC is spinning this as their 1st gay superhero to get a solo book. Umm...what about AQUAMAN. I mean c'mon : )

Woooohooooo! Awesome. And I know what you mean about Aquaman. Maybe they meant first "openly" gay superhero? ;)

I agree; if they really wanted to "take a stand" or whatever, they would make a MALE gay superhero. A "hot looking, red headed lesbian" is a comic fans' geeky fantasy, not reality. They know full well it isn't controversial.

Let us see which is better... who cares who is 1st....

I always though Wonder Woman was at least Bi... that whole Amazon thing.... Then of course there was Xena Warrior princess.

Maybe not a comic .... but

They've played with the Wonder Woman thing before--hinted at it, never confirmed. My favorite is from a Justice League comic during the 80s, when someone mentions the whole "island with only women," thing and she replies, "Why do you think we call it Paradise Island?" :D

      Exactly what I was saying.

Did we forget to mention Batman's sidekick?

        Robin rocks those green tights.

Well to be more accurate, Batwoman is the most high-profile gay superhero. There have been plenty before her that were more minor characters, both male and female, in Marvel and DC canon. This is getting more attention because she's taking over for Batman for a while, but she's certainly not the first.

Yeah, that's true, a few I can think of are Northstar(of Alpha Flight and X-Men) from Marvel, Rainmaker(of Gen13), Apollo & Midnighter(of The Authority) from Wildstorm/DC.

Hey I remember Gen 13, which one was Rainmaker? My favourite was the redhead in the green outfit.

              That was Fairchild.

Rainmaker is the one who could control the weather.

I'm not quite sure I follow your question. She has a sexual partner for a woman, if you want the sterile textbook definition.

I love we basically had the exact same story for this when she was first introduced...in 2006.

This is a non-story, why the flaming hell they're deciding to do stories on it now is beyond me.
